Valerio Piccioni , romano, classe 1967, è un noto disegnatore italiano.

Dopo il liceo scientifico frequenta la Scuola della medaglia presso la Zecca di Stato e per alcuni anni si dedica all’incisione.

Esordisce come fumettista nel 1995, con un episodio di “Max Living” e due brevi storie per L’intrepido.

Nel 1996 si trasferisce a Genova per lavorare con Maurizio Mantero in un episodio di Zona X, intitolato “Il segreto della magia”.

Trascorsi tre anni, torna nella città natale ed inizia a far parte dei disegnatori di Julia - Le avventure di una criminologa, una serie a fumetti di Giancarlo Berardi.

Nel 2016 pubblica un’intera storia dal titolo “Il lago nero” sul Maxi Dylan Dog 26.

Nel 2018 lavora sul volume Zagor -Le origini e dal 2019 realizza le copertine della serie Samuel Stern accanto a Maurizio Di Vincenzo ed Emiliano Tanzillo.

Piccioni attualmente collabora per Dylan Dog con Maurizio Di Vincenzo.

Le sue tavole, con quei personaggi senza tempo, affascinano lettori di ogni fascia d’età.

L’ ARTISTA SI RACCONTA

Da bambino mi divertivo a copiare i fumetti e amavo leggere le avventure di Ken Parker, un mitico personaggio western.

Ricordo che aspettavo con ansia il turno per poter leggere le avventure Capitan America, dopo mio fratello maggiore.

Ho iniziato il percorso da disegnatore nel 1992, dopo aver sottoposto alcune prove a Giancarlo Caracuzzo della Scuola Romana del Fumetto, fu così che ottenni due storie per Intrepido.

Nel 1995 ho aiutato Maurizio Mantero in una storia di Zona X. L’anno successivo mi sono trasferito a Genova per lavorare con Giancarlo Berardi che mi diede la possibilità di entrare tra i disegnatori di Julia.

In quel periodo conobbi Enio Legisamon, il noto disegnatore argentino, che è stato un maestro ma soprattutto un amico.

Nel 1999, sono rientrato a Roma e da allora ho iniziato un’intensa attività lavorativa, con la quale ho ottenuto vari riconoscimenti.

Lavoro soprattutto di notte, in silenzio anche se durante il giorno non faccio altro che pensare alle mie tavole, a nuove idee…forse per questo sembro sempre con la testa tra le nuvole.

Dietro a ogni mia vignetta c’è passione e impegno, che credo i miei lettori abbiano intuito.

Lavoro ancora con il vecchio metodo: carta, pennino e pennello. Quando realizzo una tavola a fumetti, dopo aver fatto dei bozzetti, uso le matite e infine ripasso a china. Spesso, quando lavoro, non mi accorgo dello scorrere del tempo, cosa che credo accada a molti miei colleghi!

Per questo motivo, a coloro che vogliono avvicinarsi a quest’attività, consiglio sempre di non stare con l’orologio in mano. Attualmente insegno tecnica del fumetto presso l’Academy della Bugs comics (l’editore romano che pubblica mensilmente Samuel Stern)

Mi diverto molto quando scopro di essere un affermato giornalista perché confuso col mio omonimo, che spero prima o poi di poter conoscere

Valerio Piccioni, born in 1967, is a well-known Roman artist.

After high school, he attends the Medal School at the State “Zecca” and for some years he dedicates himself to engraving.

He makes his debut as a cartoonist in 1995, with an episode of "Max Living" and two short stories for The Intrepid.

In 1996 he moves to Genoa to work with Maurizio Mantero in an episode of Zone X, entitled "The Secret of Magic".

After three years, he returns to his hometown and begins to be part of the designers of Julia - The Adventures of a Criminologist,a comic book series by Giancarlo Berardi.

In 2016 he publishes an entire story entitled "The Black Lake" on the Maxi Dylan Dog 26.

In 2018 he works on the volume “Zagor -Le origini” and since 2019 he has been making the covers of the Samuel Stern series alongside Maurizio Di Vincenzo and Emiliano Tanzillo.

Piccioni currently collaborates for Dylan Dog with Maurizio Di Vincenzo.

His boards, with those timeless characters, fascinate readers of all ages.

THE ARTIST TELLS HIMSELF

As a child I enjoyed copying comics and loved reading the adventures of Ken Parker, a legendary western character.

I remember looking forward to the turn to be able to read the Captain America adventures, after my older brother.

I started the path as a designer in 1992, after having submitted some tests to Giancarlo Caracuzzo of the Roman School of Comics, so that’s how I got two stories for Intrepid.

In 1995 I helped Maurizio Mantero in a story of Zone X. The following year I moved to Genoa to work with Giancarlo Berardi who gave me the opportunity to join Julia's designers.

At that time I met Enio Legisamon, the well-known Argentine designer, who was a master but above all a friend.

In 1999, I returned to Rome and since then I have started an intense work activity, with which I have obtained various awards.

I work especially at night, in silence even if during the day I do nothing but think about my tables, new ideas ... maybe that's why I always look like I'm with my head in the clouds.

Behind all my cartoons there is passion and commitment, which I believe my readers have guessed.

I still work with the old method: paper, nib and brush. When I make a comic board, after making sketches, I use the pencils and finally I go back down to china. Often, when I work, I do not notice the passage of time, which I believe happens to many of my colleagues!

For this reason, to those who want to get closer to this activity, I always advise not to stand with the watch in hand. Currently I teach comic book technique at the Academy of Bugs comics (the Roman publisher who publishes Samuel Stern monthly)

I have a lot of fun when I discover that I am an established journalist because I am confused with my namesake, which I hope to know sooner or later.
