Un tempo il lavoro manuale era separato da quello svolto
dagli “artisti”, oggi assistiamo al ritorno dei prodotti fatti a mano e all’artigianato di eccellenza.
Tra gli antichi
mestieri c’è quello del micromosaico filato, una tecnica nella quale è specializzata
Elena Lo Presti.
Romana, classe 1971, ha saputo attingere all’esperienza dei grandi
maestri del passato, divenendo una piccola imprenditrice.
Dopo gli studi classici e giuridici, a 26 anni si avvicina al
mondo dell’artigianato artistico, frequentando un corso sul micromosaico.
Lavora per una società
specializzata nella vendita di mosaici e oggetti sacri poi, dopo sedici anni, decide
di mettersi in proprio e dedicarsi alla riproduzione di quadri noti e alla
realizzazione di gioielli.
Ha ricevuto diversi riconoscimenti tra i quali, particolarmente
prestigioso, il primo premio del concorso “Gioielloinarte” dall’“Università e
Nobil Collegio degli orefici e argentieri dell’Alma città di Roma”, bandito nel
2016.
Ogni singola opera richiede esperienza, ma soprattutto un
lavoro di settimane o addirittura di mesi.
Elena si distingue per la spiccata creatività, la
ricercatezza cromatica e per la capacità di svelare dettagli nascosti.
Attualmente vive a lavora a Roma dove lavora su commissione,
mentre sogna di poter aprire una scuola per valorizzare un artigianato quasi
completamente dimenticato.
Da sempre amo disegnare, soprattutto soggetti astratti. Lo scorrere della matita sul foglio è come un fluire di pensieri e mi sembra di entrare in un’altra dimensione.
Mi sono avvicinata casualmente alla lavorazione di questo
tipo di mosaico, durante gli studi universitari, proprio quando il mio futuro
sembrava già segnato.
Dopo anni di esperienza accanto ad artigiani professionisti, sono
riuscita ad affinare la tecnica e ho scelto di lavorare autonomamente.
Trasformare un’opera d’arte in un micromosaico, per me
significa intraprendere un’avventura nel mondo dell’artista, sia esso Raffaello
o Kandinskij.
Gradualmente entro in contatto con tutti i particolari di un’opera,
dove amo perdermi dietro a forme e colori.
Per il mio lavoro occorre una lunga preparazione ma
soprattutto molta pazienza…
Innanzitutto preparo uno stucco sul quale andranno inserite
le tessere, seguendo un’antica ricetta che richiede una preparazione di circa
un anno. Fondamentale è
la lavorazione delle tessere di vetro, diverse per ciascun artista, che
rappresentano da sempre una sorta di firma.
Per “filare” il vetro si usano diversi smalti, tra questi le cosiddette
madri tinte, con le quali si possono ottenere infinite gradazioni e sfumature
di colore.
Le lunghe bacchette ottenute dalla filatura, le taglio con la
lima diamantata e realizzo piccole tessere che possono essere, soprattutto
nella realizzazione di gioielli, anche inferiori al millimetro.
Trascorro ore, giorni o mesi davanti ad un’opera nel silenzio
del mio studio. Può suonare strano in una società frenetica come la nostra, ma
l’arte è magia.

One time
manual work was separated from the one done by “artists”, today we are
witnessing the return of handmade products and excellent craftsmanship.
Among the
ancient crafts there is that of micromosaic yarn, a technique in which Elena Lo
Presti specializes.
Roman, born
in 1971, she was able to draw thanks to the knowledge of the great masters of
the past, becoming a small businesswoman.
After her
classical and legal studies, at the age of 26, she approaches the world of
artistic craftsmanship, attending a course on micromosaics.
She works for
a company specialized in the sale of mosaics and sacred objects and, after
sixteen years, decides to start her own business and dedicate herself to the
reproduction of well-known paintings and to the creation of jewelry.
She has
received several awards including, particularly prestigious, the first prize of
the competition "Gioielloinarte" from the "University and Noble
College of Jewelers and Silversmiths of the Alma city of Rome", launched
in 2016.
Every single
work requires experience, but above all a work of weeks or even months.
Elena stands
out for her strong creativity, chromatic refinement and the ability to reveal
hidden details.
She currently
lives in Rome where she works on commissions, while dreaming of being able to
open a school to enhance an almost completely forgotten craftsmanship.
THE ARTIST
TELLS HIMSELF
I have always
loved drawing, especially abstract subjects. The swipe of the pencil on the
sheet is like a flow of thoughts and I feel like I'm entering another
dimension.
I
accidentally approached the processing of this type of mosaic during my
university studies, just when my future seemed already marked.
After years
of experience alongside professional artisans, I was able to refine the
technique and chose to work independently.
Turning a
work of art into a micromosaic means for me embarking on an adventure in the
artist's world, be it Raphael or Kandinsky.
Gradually I
come into contact with all the details of a work, where I love to get lost
behind shapes and colors.
My work
requires a long preparation but above all a lot of patience ...
First I
prepare a putty on which the tiles should be inserted, following an ancient
recipe that requires a preparation of about a year. Fundamental is the
processing of glass tiles, different for each artist, which have always represented
a kind of signature.
To
"spin" the glass, different enamels are used, among them the
so-called colored mothers, with which infinite gradations and shades of color
can be obtained.
The long
chopsticks obtained from spinning, get cut with diamond file and make small
tiles that can be, especially in the creation of jewelry, even less than one
millimeter.
I spend hours, days or months in front of an opera in the silence of my studio. It may sound strange in a fast-paced society like ours, but art is magic.
