Non sono le perle che
fanno la collana. E’ il filo! (Anonimo). Sono proprio di filo di rame le opere di
Giuseppe Guanci, classe 1960 nato ad Atripada (AV).
A soli di 11 anni frequenta la scuola di Arti e Mestieri e a
21 anni tiene la primissima personale di disegni e acquerelli a Prato.
Si diploma al Liceo Artistico, partecipa a diverse mostre e inizia
i suoi studi sulla tridimensionalità, che approfondirà dopo anni di pause e
ripensamenti.
Alla mostra personale di scultura del 1994 nel castello di
Murlo (SI) ne seguono altre in luoghi prestigiosi. Nel frattempo, frequenta la
facoltà di architettura durante la quale si appassiona di archeologia
industriale. Sarà proprio per quest’ultimo interesse che seguirà un master a
Padova e pubblicherà diversi testi a riguardo.
Nel 2009 riprende la ricerca artistica e espone la prima
opera di “Tessoforme" al Palazzo dei Congressi a Roma.
Col termine “Tessoforme”, l’artista indica le sperimentazioni
di forme, completamente vuote, fatte con un sottilissimo filo metallico.
Nascono così delle originalissime opere che in breve tempo vengono recensite,
premiate e collezionate da italiani e stranieri.
Stringe una collaborazione con alcuni chef stellati italiani
e nel 2018 ha partecipato alla biennale di arte e gusto “Culinaria” a Palazzo
WeGil di Roma.
Nel 2019 una sua opera appare in tv nella fiction di Rai 1
“Pezzi Unici” di Torrini e riscuote un
immediato successo.
Attualmente l’artista vive e lavora a Prato, in Toscana.
Le opere sono frutto di un paziente lavoro d’intrecci e,
anche se ripetibili, sono tutti pezzi unici. Ogni creazioni nasconde segreti
legati allo zen, all’invisibile e questo le rende particolarmente affascinanti.
Se è vero che le opere occupano spazi vuoti, in questo caso
il vuoto è avvolto da fili…

Sono cresciuto in una famiglia che ha sempre riconosciuto la
mia creatività e giovanissimo mi ha permesso di frequentare la scuola d'Arte e
Mestieri Leonardo da Vinci di Prato.
Ho continuato a coltivare l’attività artistica durante il
periodo liceale ed ho partecipato a diverse mostre.
Dopo la creazione di piccoli disegni con china ed acquerello,
è iniziata negli anni ’80, la mia lunga ricerca sulla tridimensionalità
alternata da lunghi periodi di pausa.
Trascorrevo il tempo a scarabocchiare su fogli di carta, senza
mai staccare la penna, proprio come in una “scrittura automatica” ed iniziai ad
intravedere immagini solide nel groviglio di linee. Fu allora che ebbi l’idea
di riprodurre quell’intreccio con una rete metallica e provai con quella
chiamata “da polli”, usata per le recinzioni. Nacquero dei piccoli lavori nei
quali utilizzai anche un leggero strato di gesso.
Per un decennio non
produssi nessuna opera, ripresi la mia ricerca nella metà degli anni ’90,
sollecitato da alcuni design talentuosi. Realizzai opere di discrete dimensioni
ma purtroppo con risultati poco soddisfacenti perché le sculture ripiegavano su
sé stesse.
In quel periodo frequentavo la facoltà di architettura e fui
illuminato dalle tensostrutture ovvero quelle strutture caratterizzate dall’uso
di cavi e tiranti in tensione. Pensai di utilizzare il termine “Tensoforme” per
le mie opere, alludendo non solo alla tessitura ma anche alle tensioni che
creavo sulla superficie delle mie forme.
Dopo numerose mostre sopraggiunse un nuovo periodo di pausa
durato questa volta quindici anni.
Improvvisamente, durante una vacanza estiva, trovai una
matassa di filo di rame nel mare che mi diede l’idea per le mie opere.
Da allora ho iniziato ad usare il filo di rame e creare,
quelle che chiamo “Tessoforme”, caratterizzate dalla tessitura superficiale e internamente
vuota.
Nelle sculture è affiorata anche la filosofia orientale, appresa
dalle arti marziali e proseguita nello studio del Feng Shui, che ha influenzato
la mia ricerca artistica.
Lavoro in solitudine circondato dalle mie opere che assistono
alla creazione di “magiche trame”.

“It's not the pearls that make the necklace.
It's the thread!” (Anonymous). Giuseppe Guanci’s works, born in 1960 in
Atripada (AV), are made of copper wire.
When he was
11 he attended the school of Arts and Crafts and at the age of 21 he held his
very first drawing and watercolor solo exhibition in Prato.
He graduated
from the “Liceo Artistico”, then he participated in several exhibitions and
began his studies on three-dimensionality, which he deepened after years of
breaks and second thoughts.
The 1994
personal sculpture exhibition in Murlo castle (SI) was followed by others in
prestigious places. In the meantime, he attended the faculty of architecture
during which he became passionate about industrial archeology. Because of this
interest, he followed a master's degree in Padua and published several texts
about it.
In 2009 he
resumed his artistic research and exhibited the first work of
"Tessoforme" at the Palazzo dei Congressi in Rome.
With the term
"Tessoforme", the artist indicates the experiments of shapes,
completely empty, made with a very thin metal wire. This is how the original
works were born, in a short time were reviewed, awarded and collected by
Italians and foreigners.
He
collaborated with some Italian Michelin-starred chefs and in 2018 participated
in the biennial of art and taste "Culinaria" at Palazzo WeGil in
Rome.
In 2019 his
work appeared on TV in the Rai 1 fiction "Pezzi Unici" by Torrini and
was an immediate success.
The artist
currently lives and works in Prato, Tuscany.
His works are
the result of a patient work of weaves and, although repeatable, they are all
unique pieces. Each creation hides secrets related to zen, to the invisible and
this makes them particularly fascinating.
If it is true
that the works occupy empty spaces, in this case, the void is wrapped in
wires...
THE ARTIST TELLS HIMSELF
I grew up in
a family that has always recognized my creativity and at a very young age
allowed me to attend the Leonardo da Vinci Art and Crafts School in Prato.
I continued
to cultivate the artistic activity during the high school period and I
participated in several exhibitions.
After the
creation of small drawings with china and watercolor, , began in the 1980s, my
long research on three-dimensionality, alternated with long periods of pause.
I spent time
doodling on sheets of paper, never detaching my pen, just like in an
"automatic writing" and began to glimpse solid images in the tangle
of lines. That's when I came up with the idea of reproducing that interweaving
with a wire mesh and tried the one called "chicken," used for fences.
I made some small works in which I also used a light layer of gypsum.
For a decade
I did not produce any work, I resumed my research in the mid-90s, solicited by
some talented designs. I made works of decent size but unfortunately with
unsatisfactory results because the sculptures folded in on themselves.
At that time
I attended the faculty of architecture and I was illuminated by tensostructures
or those structures characterized by the use of cables and tension tie rods. I
thought I would use the term “Tensoforme” for my works, alluding not only to
weaving but also to the tensions I created on the surface of my forms.
After numerous
exhibitions came a new break period that lasted fifteen years this time.
Suddenly,
during summer vacation, I found a scraper of copper wire in the sea that gave
me the idea for my works.
Since then I
have started to use copper wire and create what I call weavers, characterized
by superficial and internally empty weaving.
From the
sculptures also came out eastern philosophy, learned from martial arts and
continued in the study of Feng Shui, which influenced my artistic research.
