Valerio Ferranti in arte Viales, classe 1952, nasce a Lanuvio (RM) e inizia giovanissimo a coltivare la passione per il disegno.

In seguito ad un grave incidente stradale che lo costringe a stare a casa, inizia a dedicarsi alla pittura. Incomincia a frequentare corsi d’arte e le botteghe di alcuni maestri.

Esordisce con la tecnica della china che successivamente affianca con opere ad olio.

Inizia ad esporre verso la fine degli anni ’80 con mostre personali e collettive e crea manifesti per alcune rappresentazioni teatrali. Riceve numerosi premi e riconoscimenti.

L’artista scruta l’uomo con l’occhio dello psicologo e riesce a cogliere emozioni e sensazioni che rielabora con un linguaggio personale. Le sue opere sono ricche di simbologie e oggetti nascosti, che inducono lo spettatore alla riflessione.

Significativa è l’opera Dubium vitae, nella quale alcuni omini escono da contenitori per poi tornarvi perché incapaci di trovare una vera essenza della vita.

Ricorrente è il pensiero dello scorrere del tempo spesso sprecato come dai protagonisti di Fugit hora, che si contendono le lancette.

Lo stile richiama prevalentemente i grandi maestri del surrealismo, a volte del manierismo.

Si distingue per la ricercatezza dei soggetti, la cura dei dettagli e soprattutto per la capacità di osservare la vita con una sottile ironia.

L’ARTISTA SI RACCONTA

Ho sempre amato disegnare, ricordo che l’interesse per la pittura è nato con l’incontro di una professionista, avevo 10 anni quando conobbi Anna Mutinelli che era ospite presso i miei zii.

Trascorrevo ore ad osservarla mentre dipingeva, un giorno mi confidò che per fare il pittore era necessario essere sognatori, visionari e poveri. Confessai subito di possedere quelle caratteristiche e lei affermò che sarei diventato un grande artista.

Accantonai quel sogno per moltissimo tempo poi, in seguito al mio infortunio stradale, decisi di dedicarmi alla pittura.

Inizialmente facevo persino i colori con i pigmenti naturali, ora invece mi occupo della costruzione del telaio e della stesura della tela. Per quest’ultima utilizzo esclusivamente puro lino che tratto con colla di coniglio e gesso di Bologna, secondo l’antica tecnica del XVI secolo.

Amo analizzare la società in maniera tragicomica, metto a nudo l’individuo, cercando di esplorare i sentimenti più profondi. Rifletto sempre su me stesso per comprendere meglio gli altri e trasferisco sulla tela pensieri, sogni o incubi celati da allegorie.

Nella maggior parte delle mie opere sono evidenti i riferimenti a Escher, Magritte e Dalì, in altre opere invece m’ispiro ai grandi artisti come Luca Signorelli o alcuni fiamminghi.

Non uso fare i disegni preparatori ma dipingo i soggetti direttamente sulla tela.

Trascorro la maggior parte del tempo nel mio studio dove respiro quell’arte che mi fa sentire immortale…

Valerio Ferranti aka Viales, born in 1952, was born in Lanuvio (RM) and began to cultivate a passion for drawing at a very young age.

Following a serious car accident that forced him to stay at home, he began to devote himself to painting and began attending art classes and the workshops of some masters.

He made his debut with the china technique that he later combined with oil works.

He began exhibiting towards the end of 80’s with solo and group exhibitions and created posters for some theatrical performances. Receives numerous awards and recognition.

The artist scrutinizes the man with the psychologist's eye and manages to grasp emotions and sensations that he re-elaborates with a personal language. His works are rich in symbolism and hidden objects, which induce the viewer to reflect.

The work “Dubium Vitae” is significant, in which some little men come out of containers and then return there because they are unable to find the true essence of life.

Recurring is the thought of the passage of time often wasted, as by the protagonists of “Fugit Hora”, who compete for the hands.

The style mainly recalls the great masters of surrealism, sometimes of mannerism.

It stand out for the refinement of the subjects, the attention to detail and above all the ability to observe life with a subtle irony.

THE ARTIST SPEAKS ABOUT HIMSELF

I have always loved drawing, I remember that my interest in painting was born with the meeting of a professional, I was 10 when I met Anna Mutinelli who was a guest with my uncles.

I spent hours observing her while she painted, and one day she confided to me that to be a painter it was necessary to be dreamers, visionaries and poor people. I immediately confessed to possess those characteristics and she claimed I would become a great artist.

I put that dream aside for a very long time then, following my road accident, I decided to dedicate myself to painting.

Initially I even made colors with natural pigments, now I take care of the construction of the frame and the drafting of the canvas. For the latter I only use pure linen that I treat with rabbit glue and bologna chalk, according to the ancient technique of the sixteenth century.

I love to analyze society in a tragicomic way, I lay bare the individual, trying to explore the deepest feelings. I always reflect on myself to better understand others and transfer thoughts, dreams or nightmares hidden by allegories to the canvas.

In most of my works references to Escher, Magritte and Dali are evident, while in other works I am inspired by the great artists as Luca Signorelli or Flemish paiters.

I do not use to make preparatory drawings but I paint the subjects directly on the canvas.

I spend most of my time in my studio where I breathe that art that makes me feel immortal...
